MILLER, A. T., JR., AND D. M. HALE. Increased vascularity of brain, heart, and skeletal muscle of polycythemic rats, Am. J. Physiol 2 1 g(3) : 702-704. 1970.-The vascularity of the cerebral cortex, right and left ventricle, and gastrocnemius muscle was measured in rats exposed to a simulated altitude of 18,000 ft, or injected ,daily with cobalt chloride, or transfused twice weekly with erythrocyte suspensions. Highly significant increases in vascularity of the cerebral cortex, left ventricle, and gastrocnemius muscle were sobserved in all three groups of animals. Vascular&y of the right ventricle was increased in altitude-exposed, but not in cobalttreated or transfused animals. The increase in vascularity was proportional to the increase in hematocrit in cerebral cortex and gastrocnemius muscle in all three groups of animals. In both right and left ventricle, the increase in vascularity relative to the increase in hematocrit was greater in altitude-exposed animals than in cobalt-treated or transfused animals. The nature of the stimulus responsible for the vascular changes has not been identified; it is suggested that increased blood volume or blood viscosity, as well as tissue hypoxia, may be involved.

Endurance training induces fiber type-specific revascularization in hindlimb skeletal muscles of rats with chronic heart failure
Objective(s): Previous studies showed that skeletal muscle microcirculation was reduced in chronic heart failure. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of endurance training on capillary and arteriolar density of fast and slow twitch muscles in rats with chronic heart failure. Materials and Methods: Four weeks after surgeries (left anterior descending (LAD) artery occlusion), chr...
متن کاملImpact of Aerobic Exercise on Restoration of Soleus and Gastrocnemius Muscles Microcirculations in Wistar Rats with Chronic Heart Failure
ABSTRACT Background and Objective: Scientific evidence reveals that the density of skeletal muscle microcirculations decreases in the patients with chronic heart failure. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the impact of submaximal aerobic exercise training on restoration of fast/slow-twitch muscle fibers microcirculation in rats with myocard...
متن کاملتاثیر یک دوره تمرین مقاومتی بر بیان اینترلوکین-6 و RCAN-1 در عضله اسکلتی موشهای صحرایی دیابتی شده با استروپتوزوسین
Background: Myokines released from skeletal muscle have multiple metabolic and hypertrophic effects. On the other hand, one of proposed pathways for effects of exercise training on metabolic diseases is calcineurin signaling pathway. With considering to relation between interleukin-6 (IL-6) and calcineurin, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether the resistance training has an effe...
متن کاملEffect of resistance training on structural injuries of skeletal muscle induced by different doses of Boldenone in male rats
Background and Aims: The use of anabolic steroids is common among athletes who perform resistance training; nonetheless, the effect of their abuse, along with resistance training, on the structural destruction of skeletal muscles is not fully understood. The present study aimed to assess the effect of different doses of Boldenone, along with resistance training, on muscle injury. Materials and...
متن کاملThe effect of resistance exercise on oxidative stress in cardiac and skeletal muscle tissues of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Abstract Background and Objective: It has been shown that oxidative stress increases in diabetes and it has an important role in its development and subsequent complications. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of acute resistance exercise on oxidative stress in skeletal muscle and cardiac tissues of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: Twenty male ...
